{"id":10701,"date":"2025-09-21T04:53:25","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T04:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/himalhub.com\/?p=10701"},"modified":"2025-09-21T04:53:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T04:53:25","slug":"narayanghat-muglin-and-other-highways-shut-down-by-landslides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/himalhub.com\/?p=10701","title":{"rendered":"Narayanghat-Muglin and Other Highways Shut Down by Landslides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Himal Hub\/<\/strong> Continuous landslides triggered by rainfall and construction works have disrupted several major highways across Nepal in recent days, stranding thousands of passengers and obstructing the flow of goods just ahead of the festive season.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, a major landslide at Tuin Khola in Chitwan blocked the Narayanghat\u2013Muglin road, one of the busiest routes connecting Kathmandu with the eastern and western parts of the country. The slide, caused partly by ongoing bridge construction and rainfall, buried nearly 160 meters of roadway. Traffic movement came to a standstill, leaving long queues of vehicles waiting for clearance.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, a huge boulder fell on the Karnali Highway in Jumla, at Tila Rural Municipality-4, halting large vehicles. Smaller vehicles have been able to pass with difficulty, while bulldozers and road maintenance crews continue efforts to remove the obstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Mahakali Highway in Baitadi was blocked at Salsena, Dogadakedar-5, completely cutting off road links between Baitadi and major trade centers such as Mahendranagar, Dhangadhi, and Kathmandu. The disruption has raised concerns over supply of daily essentials in the region.<\/p>\n<p>In Makawanpur, a \u201cdry landslide\u201d at Jyamire, Indrasarobar-3 obstructed the Hetauda\u2013Kathmandu alternative route via Fakhel and Dakshinkali. Adding to the difficulties, falling stones and trees at Lamidanda in Bhimphedi-9 disrupted sections of the Tribhuvan Highway.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have mobilized security personnel and heavy equipment to clear the debris. However, continuous rainfall, fragile terrain, and recurring slides have slowed down road restoration efforts.
