Finance Minister Emphasizes Policy and Structural Reforms to Strengthen Nepal’s Economy

Kathmandu – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel has affirmed that the Government of Nepal is committed to implementing policy and structural reforms aimed at strengthening the national economy.

During a courtesy meeting with the visiting fifth review mission team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Minister Poudel expressed optimism about recent improvements in Nepal’s economic performance. He noted that sustained reforms in policy and institutional structures would play a vital role in furthering economic stability and growth.

Finance Minister Poudel highlighted that the government has prioritized addressing economic challenges through a combination of legal, policy, and dialogue-driven approaches. He assured that recommendations from the international community would be considered and implemented in alignment with Nepal’s national context and priorities.

Minister Poudel also stressed the significance of the ongoing fifth review being conducted in collaboration with the IMF. He said the successful completion of this review would mark a crucial milestone and expressed confidence in the cooperation and coordination from Nepal’s side throughout the process. He also encouraged the IMF mission team to engage in broader dialogue and consultations with all relevant stakeholders concerning key reform agendas.

On behalf of the IMF, mission chief Sarwat Jahan stated that the team is in the process of reviewing Nepal’s past reform programs and is conducting necessary groundwork for future initiatives.
