Government Implements Mandatory Permit for All Property Transactions

Himal Hub/The government has tightened regulations on buying and selling property by introducing a mandatory permit system, effective after seven years of preparation. Under the 8th amendment of the Land Regulations, property transactions without approval are prohibited. Violators may face fines up to NPR 25 lakh and imprisonment up to six months.

To streamline business and prevent money laundering, the government amended land-related laws through the 2080 amendment bill. Applicants must submit requests to the relevant authority in the prescribed format. Fees are based on transaction size:

Up to NPR 5 crore: NPR 5 lakh
Above NPR 5 crore: NPR 10 lakh

Permit renewal is required before expiry, with fees ranging from NPR 4 to 8 lakh depending on transaction size. Renewal applications must be submitted at least 35 days in advance.
