Himal Hub/Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the SCO Plus Meeting in Tianjin, China, emphasizing the importance of revitalized multilateralism amid global challenges like inequality, conflicts, climate emergencies, and economic turbulence. He highlighted the need for a more effective, UN-centered global governance system and welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) as a step toward a just and inclusive international order.
Oli stressed the urgency of a stronger, more integrated, and resilient SCO to address geopolitical, economic, and ecological shocks. Nepal, a Dialogue Partner since 2016, expressed its aspiration to become a full member.
He called for regional cooperation to tackle shared threats such as terrorism, climate change, cyber-attacks, pandemics, and ecological crises. To ensure sustainable development, he advocated three strategic shifts:from isolation to connectivity, from confrontation to consultation, and from competition to cooperation.
In conclusion, Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to SCO, supported a rules-based multilateral system, and urged members to uphold the Shanghai Spirit to strengthen regional friendship, partnerships, and sustainable prosperity.
