Nationwide Strike Hits EDF, France’s Power Supply Sees Minor Disruption

Himal hub / A large-scale strike has impacted Électricité de France (EDF), the country’s main power utility, since October 8, 2025, as workers protest over pay and working conditions. The industrial action caused a slight drop in electricity production, though France continues to export more power than it imports.

EDF assured that essential services remain stable, while union leaders warn the strike could escalate if demands are not addressed. The dispute highlights growing labor tensions in France’s energy sector amid rising costs and policy shifts toward clean energy.
