Himal Hub / Trump Threatens Iran’s Infrastructure Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict. U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to target Iran’s energy facilities and other critical infrastructure, including desalination plants that supply drinking water, if a deal to end the ongoing conflict is not reached “shortly.”
The warning came as Iran reportedly struck a key water and power facility in Kuwait, while an oil refinery in Israel was also attacked. In response, the U.S. and Israel launched a new series of strikes against Iranian targets, with the war showing no signs of abating.
Trump issued his latest threat via social media, following earlier remarks to the Financial Times suggesting that American forces could seize Iran’s Kharg Island oil export terminal. While the U.S. president has claimed progress on diplomatic efforts, Tehran denies engaging in direct negotiations. Meanwhile, the U.S. has deployed thousands of additional troops to the region.
The status of diplomatic mediation facilitated by Pakistan remains unclear. Iran’s continued attacks on neighboring Gulf countries could further complicate any potential talks. The United Arab Emirates, long seen as a stable actor in the region, has indicated it seeks Iran to be disarmed as part of any ceasefire arrangement.
