Michael Jackson Biopic Crosses $700 Million Globally, Dominates Worldwide Box Office

Himal Hub / The biographical film *“Michael,”* based on the life of pop legend Michael Jackson, has achieved a major global milestone by earning more than $700 million at the worldwide box office. The film reclaimed the top position internationally after collecting an impressive $57.7 million from 83 overseas markets during the weekend.

Distributed internationally by Universal Pictures and in the U.S. by Lionsgate, the film continues to perform strongly even in its fourth week of release. So far, *“Michael”* has grossed $703 million worldwide, including $421 million from international markets and $282 million from North America.

With its release in Japan still pending, industry analysts believe the film could surpass the $911 million global record set by the acclaimed 2018 musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Meanwhile, The Walt Disney Company’s highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also nearing the $550 million mark globally. Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, the comedy sequel has earned $546.2 million worldwide so far.

In its third week, the film added another $50.6 million from international markets alone. While it earned $175.9 million in North America, the movie has seen even greater success overseas, generating $370.3 million internationally. Its strongest-performing markets include the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico. Disney reportedly invested around $100 million in producing the sequel.

At the same time, Warner Bros.’ sequel Mortal Kombat 2 experienced a significant slowdown in its second weekend. The film collected only $10 million from 79 international territories, marking a 53 percent drop from its opening weekend performance. After two weeks, the movie has earned $39 million internationally and $101 million worldwide against an $80 million production budget.

Elsewhere, Amazon MGM Studios’ mystery comedy Sheep Detective, starring Hugh Jackman, earned $14 million across 88 markets during its second weekend. The film has now grossed $29 million internationally and $58.7 million worldwide.

Produced with a budget of approximately $75 million, *“Sheep Detective”* may need a longer theatrical run to fully recover its investment. However, strong reviews and positive audience reactions are expected to support its box office momentum in the coming weeks.
