Amaresh Kumar Singh Targets Gagan Thapa, Questions Congress Leadership

Himal Hub / Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Singh has launched a sharp criticism of Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, questioning the party leadership’s responsibility for its current political condition.

Singh made the remarks on social media as the Nepali Congress began its general convention. In his statement, the former Congress lawmaker accused the party leadership of creating conditions that pushed several leaders and members to leave the organization.

Singh argued that their departure was not voluntary, claiming that the party leadership had effectively handed control of the organization to people involved in corruption and questionable business practices.

“People did not simply leave the party on their own. They were forced out after you handed the party’s responsibility to fraudsters, corrupt figures and contractors,” Singh wrote, directly targeting the Congress leadership.

He also questioned the party’s repeated claim of being a major force behind Nepal’s democratic movement. According to Singh, historical contributions alone cannot shield the leadership from accountability for the party’s present situation.

“Who is responsible for bringing a party that fought for democracy to this state?” Singh asked.

Taking a further swipe at the Congress leadership, Singh said the party must be prepared to accept responsibility for its current political decline instead of relying solely on its historical legacy.

“Simply celebrating the glory of history is not enough; one must also accept responsibility for the destruction of the present,” Singh said in his post.

He further criticized what he described as an attempt to use the Congress’ democratic legacy as a political asset while simultaneously weakening the foundations of the same organization.

Singh is a former Nepali Congress lawmaker who later joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party. He contested the recent House of Representatives election from Sarlahi-4 as an RSP candidate and defeated Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa.

His latest remarks come at a politically significant moment for the Nepali Congress, with its general convention underway and questions over the party’s leadership, direction and internal organization remaining prominent.
