Himal Hub/ Nepal Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle is set to meet US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga during his visit to the United States.Wagle arrived in the US on Sunday night with a two-member delegation. His meetings with Bessent and Banga are scheduled for Monday.
The talks will focus on strengthening economic cooperation between Nepal and its international partners. Wagle is also expected to seek greater support for Nepal’s development and economic reform efforts.Issues including bilateral assistance, reconstruction, Nepal’s efforts to leave the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and broader economic reforms will be discussed.
The recent floods in the Bhotekoshi area are also expected to be part of the discussions. Wagle will seek additional support for rebuilding infrastructure damaged by the floods and for improving Nepal’s ability to withstand future disasters.
The government is also looking to attract more investment in major infrastructure projects. Roads and electricity transmission lines are among the key areas where Nepal wants to increase investment.
According to the planned agenda, the finance minister will discuss ways to create more jobs and economic opportunities by increasing investment from development partners and the private sector.During his US visit, Wagle is also scheduled to meet senior officials of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
He will further hold discussions with leading private-sector investors. The meetings are aimed at promoting investment in Nepal and strengthening the country’s economic engagement with international investors.
The visit comes as Nepal seeks greater international support for reconstruction, infrastructure development, private investment and wider economic reforms.
